Exercise From The Movie 300

The actors in the movie 300 were in fantastic shape.  This article will explain how those guys got their lean bodies. Of course, there was a little bit of make-up, and some lighting, but, they truly were ripped for the movie. Read on, and if you are brave enough, give it a try!

So, what did the grueling workout routine look like? The actors trained for a duration ranging from eight to ten weeks with a goal of shaping them to look not like bodybuilders, but as close as possible to a Greek warrior. What's the difference you ask? A bodybuilder's routine would focus more on individual body parts, tweaking and focusing on exercises that would eventually build the best looking physique - symmetrical, having correct proportions and lots of muscle mass. A 'Greek warrior' physique would however have a more 'raw' and functional appearance, not necessarily big and muscular, with a focus not on pretty looking muscles, but a fit, lean, mean machine.. basically an ordinary guy who is very fit and lean, and strong - the look of having muscles that are there for a purpose. So, as a dancer, I think most women would prefer men to look like warriors, than body builders. Plus, warriors had to fight, which meant they moved around a lot. 

The routine?

a) Pullups - 25 reps
b) Deadlifts with 135lbs - 50 reps
c) Pushups - 50 reps
d) 24-inch Box jumps - 50 reps
e) Floor wipers - 50 reps
f) Single-arm Clean-and-Press with 36lbs Kettlebell - 50 reps (for each arm)
g) Pullups - 25 reps

 

 

Sum up the total number of repetitions, and you get a total of 300, which is how the routine got its name. The challenge is that you're supposed to do it within 20 minutes.

p.s.2 People have asked me about this routine and wondered if it works for women. Well, here is a version for women:

50     side bends with 8 lb weights, 50 per arm 
50     sit ups 
25     side bends, arms over head with no weight in the other hand, 25 per arm 
50     jumping squats 
25     push ups 
25     dips 
50     Leg Raises

That's 300 total. But remember, you have to be able to do it in 20 minutes or less. 

 

And for the guys who do not have exercise equipment in their home, here is the exercise routine without equipment (you still need dumbbells)

50     Push ups
50     Dead Lifts
50     Side bends with 20 lb weights, 50 per side
50     jumping squats 
50     Floor Wipes 
50     Leg Raises 

That's 300 total. And just like the ladies, you have to be able to do it in 20 minutes or less.
